there's more on my soundcloud i'm just choosing to write about the ones i like. yeah soundcloud already has space to write a description but i don't wanna put any actual serious information there 'cuz it's embarrassing :p

skirt chaser (project filename: funnysillylittleman.flp)

this one started out with me wanting to make something that sounded like third strike... and came out absolutely fucking nothing like that. and yet someone still commented saying it reminds them of 3s??? huh???? how??????

super starlyte ii turbo (project filename: FatC_9.flp)

my friend cay was showing me some shoegaze stuff and it made me want to try something more ambient, but of course since i have adhd it still has to be a billion beats per minute lol. most of my original stuff makes me cringe on some level but i'd say this is the one that i'm the most confident in how it came out, even if there's a few bits that kinda go nowhere and i wish i did more with the percussion. i think the guitars were just a soundfont that i threw a billion filters on and processed to hell to sound less synthesized and i think it came out surprisingly good... my favorite part is the couple of seconds at 1:22ish when the drums cut out for a second and the bass goes crazy, i think it's hype!!!!! i think i incorporated samples well too.

Rapture of the Great Curry God (project filename: mystic.flp)

i was having a lot of trouble making original songs in trackers at the time, so with this one I gave up and it's just a soundfont with OPN/OPNA instruments lol... NON AUTHENTIC CHIPTUNE CRINGE!!!!!!!!!! i usually only ever wanna make fast paced high energy stuff so this just started as me wanting to change things up with an ominous track that builds tension (if I had to guess I was inspired by Ooze from Phantasy Star IV probably) and then wasn't sure how to end it so I thought it might be fun if it proceeded to the "next phase" of the fight and became something more hyper. I think transitioning from one part of a song to the next is a weak point of mine, so I really like how every bit of this song ties together! it goes from on edge and foreboding, to anime power of friendship battling a huge threat, to something more subdued and melancholic with a hint of desperation, like the party's on their last legs but still hanging in there because they know what they stand to lose if they fail. I think the last part is my favorite because melancholic is my favorite vibe, but I'm fond of all of it.

supa penis (project filename: SUPAPENIS_3.flp)

i made this one after a six month break from music... I made this to get back into the swing of it but instead fucked off for 2 more years lol... with this one I just kinda banged out some chords with a random synth, sped it up, like how it sounded, and worked off that. it ended up going in all sorts of weird directions... it's the most chaotic thing i made, i'm surprised it works as well as it does. a japanese DJ asked for permission to play this at a digifu event in hokkaido so this is my first and only song to be played at a live venue i guess rofl???? nuts to me, i don't really think of my music as something you can dance to it's kinda just my brain vomit... but i was mad flattered obv. i wish i had video of it.

grimmi music

famitracker original, this was a request to make something halloween themed, i don't think it's spectacular or anything but my workflow was insane on this and i finished this in a day????? i guess that just goes to show how much it can help to have a concrete theme to go off of. or maybe i'm just born to make haunted house music. the original client didn't use it so i gave it to a certain streamer to use as her intro music so if you've heard it before that's why

Mario's Super Picross - Wario Puzzle 1 (VRC6)

i like doing covers to relax, but have a really hard time adding my own touch to make them distinct enough from the original to justify posting them... with this one i think i did a decent job of that, it has the most improv sections out of everything I do. for whatever reason it came more naturally than usual here. the limitations of famitracker really help with that honestly, I think that's why I used it so much when I was doing music... I don't actually like 8-bit chiptune that much but by nature of what you're working with i think you get pushed out of your comfort zone into doing something more original with whatever song you're arranging.

IMAGE

Phantasy Star 2 - Rise or Fall (2A03)

actually i lied maybe this has more improv in it? whatever. did this one at my parent's on christmas eve or the day before it or something. what i said about limitations forcing you to improvise more goes doubly with the 2A03. i wish I used it more! VRC6 feels "just right" in terms of how many channels you get but you have to get so much more inventive to get a rich-sounding arrangement out of the base 2A03 chip and it's soooo much fun to do and makes it really easy to get into the flow... doing this one felt like a jam session with myself.

Heartbeat (project filename: whateverrrr.flp)

this is one of those songs i made during a period of lockdown where i was super emotional and i can feel the kind of sentimental vibe i had at the time, which is surreal because the feelings i had when i was making it aren't really ones i experience anymore lol... anyway this one's kinda messy ehhhhh but i like what i was going for. i made it while imagining a kind of story about a person with a robot lover watching them and wondering if their partner's simulated emotions are anything like what they feel inside, thinking about the electrical pulses going through their circuits and how similar yet different they are from a living breathing thing. corny but whatever.

IMAGE

Lily of the Nile (project name: skyly3.flp)

you'd think from the name and picture i was going for something PSO-esque... but not really, i just wanted to try something with a house sound. this is one i kinda hate now but was super proud of at the time so i might as well give it a spot here. the piano song at 1:44 has a strongish start but i really struggled to end it and i do NOT like how it cuts off abruptly lol... but the bit afterwards with the spacey synth brass section is nice.

IMAGE

Desolate (project name: prehistorics.btm)

another one i was super proud of at the time but kinda ehhhhh on now. honestly now i only like the part before the loop, but i did kinda pop off with that so...

i wrote this in the soundcloud bio originally and deleted it out of embarrassment, but i had a story playing out in my head when i made this about an android making a journey across an icy snowscape to pay respects to a human companion who has been deceased for centuries... the first two parts are the trek across the snow, reliving memories and enjoying the journey while admiring the harsh but beautiful scenery, then the last part is actually arriving

IMAGE

starship penis is preparing for takeoff (project name: originalbs.btm)

how did i start on my first original tracker song AND first time working with FM and produce THIS!??? it pisses me the fuck off because every fucking time since trying to do something in a tracker besides a cover was a fucking STRUGGLE and none of it as good as this rofllllllllll im so mad. beginner's luck.........

IMAGE

tomorrow today later now forever

i named it that because i thought i would NEVER finish... the description on sc says it's unfinished though so i guess i still planned on adding more to it and gave up? this is my only famitracker original i think. i think my frustration with where to go with it really shows and the song is a little directionless and confused but i do think it's neat as an experiment in making an ambient drum and bass song with just 8-bit instruments and i made kind of an interesting sound palette.

IMAGE

Garuda I (project filename: cyberbeat.flp)

another in the genre of "really liked this one when i made it and now i think is just eh..." i was trying stimulant medication again and my vibes were super weird. i made it while imagining being in a box getting smaller and smaller with the walls closing in. i also wanted it to sound.... vaguely like a toonami bumper??? i think??? maybe i'd like this more if i picked something less cheesy for the bass... even though I don't really think it's anything special I'm putting it here because I think I did a good job with the piano at 2:28. it's hard banging out a melody like that when you're just sequencing and can't play live lol. i was taking lessons for a bit before covid, i should give it another try

IMAGE

i used zsnes instead of snes9x as a kid cuz i liked the snow effect (project filename: kdl3_6.flp)

my first original song!!!! although it's pretty blatantly a jun ishikawa style imitation. and like my second or third most played on sc still rofl but i think that's just cuz of the goofy name. honestly, i still like it a lot, very dreamy and emotive. i think lately i'm afraid to make something blatantly videogamey like this with just soundfonts and no fancy synths or loops and that's part of what has me blocked. when i started getting a bit of attention for my stuff i felt pressured to make "real" music but i'm not as good at that.

IMAGE

Aberrant Heat (project filename: jazzybreakbeat_2.flp)

don't know what's "jazzy" about it other than the walking bass in one part, but the vibe of the track never ends up anything like how it starts so who knows what it was like at first lol. once again everything i made during lockdown has this weirdly dark vibe and really makes me remember the headspace i was in... somehow so many of these instruments are just soundfonts that i post-processed the hell out of???? i should look through the project file 'cuz I'd like to know how i got some of these sounds just by tweaking SNES game instruments. i think i made this not long after the kirby one so i guess it makes sense. its not my favorite but this is one of those ones that came together crazy quickly, just a couple days instead of the usual week+ long ordeal dealing with paralysis and trying to get things just right. i think that's why i started utilizing drum loops and samples so much more after this one.

IMAGE

Madou Monogatari ARS - Temporal Temple (NES VRC6 cover take 2)

the first cover I uploaded of this I thought didn't sound distinct enough from the original, so I remade it while tweaking things to make them more "bouncy" and fun with lots of pitch bends everywhere like I noticed other chiptune artists like do... it's short and simple, but i really really like it lol

IMAGE

DQ5 Ocean Voyage ~ Mariner remix (dnb)

this was before i did any original songs and had only done covers, and with this i tried to challenge myself for the first time to do a cover that was more of a "remix" and diverged significantly from the original... i think i went too far as it's pretty unrecognizable lol. but overall, i'm impressed that i made something this coherent sounding when i was still a total newbie flailing around clicking stuff to try to fit the pieces together in a way that sounds good... i guess that's still my process though... which is why i like this more than a lot of the stuff i ended up making since... rofl
